History of Qom water and introduction of company

The problem of supplying Qom water and its studies began by Iranian and French consulting engineers since years about 1951; after doing some studies, the route of Qomroud river was suggested for digging half-deep wells that four wells were dug in the route of this river.  By the establishment of cast iron pipes-laying of water in 83 k.m. and two 2000 m³ aerial cast iron reservoir in 1964, the primary foundation of Qom supplying water canal were formed, following that, watering circle was established in Qom municipality.

At the course of time, by considering the development of canal and increase in population, number of dug wells increased up to 34 wells in the route of river and suburbs of Qom. In 1968, Qom water organization was established under direct supervision of ministry of the Interior. In 1977, the studies related to water transfer from Ali Abad plain was begun; finally, 11 deep wells were dug in Ali Abad plain in 1980. By constructing 65 k.m. transfer line and Shokouhiyeh pumping station and cast iron storage sources, the first relatively fresh water with appropriate EC was transformed into Qom and exploited in 1983. 

In 1990, the Act on water and sewage companies establishment was approved by Islamic Consultative Assembly and Qom water and sewage company was established under the title of private joint-stock and by shareholding of Qom municipality, Tehran province water and sewage company, state water and sewage engineering company and power investment as one of Tehran province water and sewage satellite companies in 1993 and it performed activity under supervision of Ministry of Power. Then, after making Qom as province in 1997, it was separated from that company ad continued to work as Qom province water and sewage company. According to Art.2 of Articles of Association, the subject of company activities is as follows:

1-      Exploitation of installations related to supplying and distributing city water after filling up with water such as purification plants, pumping stations, transfer lines, sources and wells, control systems and distribution canal.

2-       Exploitation of collection canal, sewage transfer, purification plants and related pumping stations.

3-      To execute the plans of collection, transfer and purification of sewage.

4-       To execute the plans of water supply and transfer.

5-      To invest and participate in the institutions and other companies that are related to objects and duties of company in order to promote qualitatively and quantitatively activities of company.

6-      To perform research and educational affairs towards objects of company and coordinate with planning vice-presidency of state water and sewage engineering company.
